Top five Galaxy S8 rumors that we want to be true

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is one of the most hotly anticipated smartphones of the year. The leaks and rumors have been pouring in endlessly over the past few months, leaving little to the imagination. There are still some unconfirmed reports, however, which might go either way. Let’s discuss these features and the probability of Samsung using them with the upcoming flagship(s).

An all new design:

While most reports were expecting a radical new design, Samsung is going to stick with the basics. One of the biggest design changes here is the inclusion of onscreen buttons in favor of physical and capacitive keys right below the display. This is one aspect that is confirmed to be on board the next Samsung flagship. The display is also going to be curved around the sides, something that was long expected from the handset.

A new moniker:

Gone are the days when Samsung would specify the design of the device within the official name. So instead of calling it the Galaxy S8 and S8 edge, Samsung will simply call it the Galaxy S8 and the S8+. This has been confirmed by multiple reports, and will almost certainly be confirmed during the official announcement.

An all-new voice assistant:

Based off Bixby, this voice-assistant will radically change things with regards to Android based voice assistants. While Google Now and Google Assistant have given Android users (since recently) the ability to talk to their devices the way iOS users talk to their iPhones or iPads, Samsung could finally set the benchmark for how to get it right on Android. The Bixby voice assistant will be reportedly bundled into core apps like the camera, calendar and others. Naturally, it can also be activated from practically anywhere, perhaps thanks to always-on microphones.

Bigger batteries:

It is said that the standard Galaxy S8 will come with a 3,000mAh battery while the S8+ will feature a 3,500mAh battery under the hood. While battery performance has never been a concern with Samsung’s flagships (unless we’re talking about the Galaxy Note 7), it’s good to know that Samsung is keeping prolonged usage in mind for its future flagships.

Enhanced audio support with a 3.5mm audio jack:

This is perhaps the feature that I’m most looking forward to. Rumors have mentioned that the Galaxy S8 will come with a 3.5mm headphone jack that has gone extinct over the past year or so. But it seems like common sense has prevailed and Samsung is going with what the consumers really want. With Samsung acquiring AKG’s parent company Harman International for around $8 billion last year, it makes sense to see AKG branding on board the new flagship.

We have seen Samsung announcing its partnership with AKG during the release of the Galaxy Tab S3 last month. It is rumored that Samsung will supply high-performance AKG headphones with the Galaxy S8, which could significantly bolster the handset’s audio credentials. There’s not much time left for the release of the S8 and the S8+, so we hope to see all of these features onboard the new flagships.
