Hands on: Motorola Moto X Style Smartphone

Motorola Moto X

Motorola has launched two variants of its flagship Moto X smartphone this year: Moto X Style and Moto X Play. While the Moto X Play is retailing in the market for the last few months, it is now time to get up close and personal with the Moto X Style. In terms of the design, the Moto X Styles seems to follow the same design philosophy as the earlier Moto X phones. In fact, in terms of look and feel it also bears resemblance to the Nexus 6, which is made by Motorola.

Just like the Moto X Play, the Moto X Style also comes with a curved back. In a market that is flooded with plenty of size zero phones, this might look slightly thicker. The dimensions of Moto X Style are 124 x 76 x 11mm and it weighs 179g. However, it is quite nice to hold.
The power button and the volume rocker are nested on the right hand side and are within easy thumb reach and there is nothing on the left panel.

On the top panel, we find the 3.5mm jack and the bottom panel has the microUSB port. Overall, the Moto X Style has plenty going for it in terms of the design but we are not too happy with the thickness and its plastic body.

Screen and display
Moto X Style comes with a 5.7-inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 equaling 520ppi that looks gorgeous. Given that there was no pre-loaded content on the hands-on units that we were given, we tried playing a few YouTube videos and they looked superb.

Also Motorola has opted for LCD display on this phone instead of an AMOLED, which we think will be a good thing from a battery perspective.

Performance
Personally, I am a big fan of the stock Android experience and that is why for me it is always a pleasure to get my hands on a Motorola device.
Moto X Style packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor clocked at 1.8GHz and giving it company is 3GB of RAM. It will be available in 16GB and 32GB internal storage options and it supports microSD to up to128GB microSD. From whatever time we managed to spend with the phone, it came across as a smooth performer.

It comes with 3,000mAh battery which the company claims will easily last a day and on top of it supports Turbo Charging, which will get you from 0 to 80% in just 15 minutes flat. We shall be putting both these claims to test in our review that shall be coming out soon.

Camera
With both the Moto X Play and Moto X Style, the company has been very quick to point out how good cameras they have. For the record, the Moto X Style comes with 21MP sensor that is capable of shooting videos in 4K.

The images captured using the same in adequate light turn out to be decent. There is also a 5MP front facing camera that supports wide-angle selfie mode, but we couldn't check that.

Early Verdict
For Rs 29,999, Motorola seems to have another winner up its sleeve. In fact, it can give the previous generation Nexus a run for its money.
