Xiaomi Mi Protect plan officially released in India for a handful of devices

Xiaomi has just announced its accidental damage protection plan for its devices, priced at Rs 275 and Rs 499 depending on the device. The coverage applies to the Mi 4, Mi 4i, Mi Pad tablet, the Redmi 2 as well as the Redmi 2 Prime.

As we reported last week, the Mi Protect plan will cover accidental damages including water related as well as standard drops, thus practically covering all sorts of damages that one would encounter in a smartphone's lifetime. Also included is a SIM misuse coverage of up to Rs 3,000.

In case of device theft, the customers can remotely lock the SIM card with one phone call to the Xiaomi customer support team. For Rs 275 you can get coverage for the Redmi 2 and the Redmi 2 Prime. But if you own devices like the Mi 4, Mi 4i and the Mi Pad tablet, you will have to shell out Rs 499.

Since all the devices are technically under warranty, you can get Mi Protect for all the aforementioned devices. The Mi Protect coverage is only applicable for devices bought from mi.com though, so this won't apply you got your device from Amazon or Flipkart.

This is an excellent idea from Xiaomi and offers users the luxury of using their smartphones without fear of paying too much for accidental damages. Once you have registered a complaint with Xiaomi, the representatives will come over to your doorsteps and ascertain if it qualifies for a repair or a replacement.
